Lamai Serengeti | Safari Camp

Home / Lamai Serengeti

Lamai Serengeti is an absolutely outstanding lodge. It offers top-notch quality and delivers some of the finest service in the region. The lodge embodies Nomad Camp’s signature simplistic luxury, providing an authentic safari experience without the excessive glitz and glam often associated with luxury. Perched atop Kogakuria Kopje, it treats guests to breathtaking views of the Serengeti plains, where the migrating herds are visible from late July onwards. Compared to many opulent safari camps, Lamai Serengeti stands out with its unique style and extraordinary location, offering a refreshing and unforgettable experience.

Nomad Lamai Serengeti - The Facts

Lamai Serengeti is a hidden gem, nestled atop the famous Kopje, seamlessly integrated into the rocky terrain characteristic of the Kogatende region in the Serengeti. This part of the Serengeti, in northern Tanzania, offers some of the most naturally stunning landscapes.

The lodge is ingeniously spread out among enormous boulders, offering sweeping views of the plains below. The central guest and restaurant area serves as the heart of the camp, exuding a comfortable, luxurious, and delightfully quirky safari style. In the green seasons, the open fireplace takes center stage, but the real highlight is the round sitting area, providing perhaps the best views in camp, rivaling only the lunch table by the swimming pool. It truly feels like a dream home away from home. The overall service at the lodge is exceptional, with the kitchen consistently delivering outstanding cuisine.

The spacious rooms are situated on either side of the main area, each offering breathtaking views. However, the room at the top of the Kopje stands out as the winner. These environmentally friendly rooms feature oversized beds that overlook the plains, making waking up in the morning an extraordinary experience. The beautiful balconies are perfect for relaxation, whether it’s reading a book, painting a picture, or simply enjoying the diverse landscape. This lodge is a favorite among honeymooners.

The addition of a lovely swimming pool area provides the perfect spot for some well-deserved relaxation between game drives.

Lastly, the guiding at Lamai is of the highest standard. Nomad camps are known for their exceptional guide training, and the managers, often former guides themselves, ensure that these high standards are maintained.

Lamai is most popular when the migrating herds arrive in the Northern Serengeti around late July. From then until the end of October, and sometimes even into November, guests can witness the herds passing by the camp and the famous river crossings at the Mara River, which is located about half an hour away by game drive. However, even when the herds are not present, Lamai remains a remarkable destination. During the shoulder seasons, with fewer visitors in the area, guests can enjoy an abundance of resident wildlife all to themselves, coupled with lower rates, creating the recipe for an unforgettable safari experience.

The Nomad Lamai provided a truly exceptional experience. Our game drives were extraordinary, offering sightings of nearly every conceivable wildlife scenario. We observed wildebeest safely crossing the river (with no crocodile encounters), witnessed ostriches in the midst of their mating rituals, encountered rhinos, and even came across a leopard tortoise – a truly unique experience!
